TRAPPING IN QUÉBEC

In Quebec, the government is the sole trustee of wildlife assets because these invaluable resources cannot legally belong to anyone. Our collective wealth therefore depends primarily on the Act respecting the conservation and development of wildlife (RSQ Section C–61.1). This act is also administered by Société de la Faune et des Parcs du Québec (FAPAQ) (Wildlife and Parks Corporation of Quebec).

With regard to wildlife, FAPAQ states that its basic responsibilities are

  • To conserve and develop this renewable natural resource for the benefit of current and future generations
  • To keep wildlife and wildlife-related activities accessible to the public

These responsibilities include all trapping, hunting, and fishing activities in Quebec.
